"I have the impression of having always painted, of being born a painter. As a little kid, I
drew on whatever passed under my hands, much to my father's chagrin" explains
RENOT who began his career as a young man in Lyon, France, over 50 years ago.
His paintings have since been widely exhibited and have won many jurored
competitions throughout Europe, New York and California with one man show
in Cannes, Lyon, Venice, Paris end San Francisco.
This prolific artist has produced and received recognition for a strong body of work
resulting in an appreciation of the value of his Oeuvres d'Art acquired
by discerning collectors worldwide. Renot depicts larger than life personalities with
whimsical humor, including Napoleon, Don Quixote, Marilyn Monroe and Charlie
Chaplin. "I adore Charly Chaplin. A good part of my youth was filled with black an
white Chaplin films so there is some nostalgia involved. I wanted to bring him into
modern time, and put him in color." Renot explains."I give great priority to color, which is not always a reflection of reality I like to invent life, not merely copy it"
Renot sites Goya as one of his favorite artists, but considers himself
a contemporary impressionist painter with strong fauvist tendencies.
"I give great priority to color, which is not always a reflection of reality.
I like to invent life, not merely copy it. The second priority is drawing. Ha, the drawing!
For me it is the sacred element in the composition of a painting.
The very signature of a painting itself." says Renot. Indeed painting is the language
in which the french artist feels most comfortable speaking. "I have many more
words at my disposal when I have a paintbrush in my hand, so I paint." Says Renot in his
mother tongue. If art imitates life, the artist himself is in constant motion. Always on the go, juggling several projects at once. Renot exudes an incredible energy and remarkable zest. He throws himself into the crux of life that is constantly shifting and changing. During the last five years, his paintings have flowed forth with a new found clarity, rapidity, case and joy. For Renot, the artistic voyage is unending: Art is life and life is art.
